If you’re adding open water swimming to your summer training, Cedar Creek is well worth a look. It offers a quiet, low-key alternative to Gyro Beach for swimmers who prefer a less crowded place to get in some distance. So far, very few people have even heard of it!
The new out-and-back deep-water course gives swimmers a defined route, with buoys spaced every 75 meters along the swim. The shore is rocky, so water shoes are a smart idea when entering and exiting the water.
As with Gyro Beach, there are no lifeguards on duty at Cedar Creek, and the course is best suited to competent open water swimmers who are comfortable in deep water. For swimmers with the right experience, though, it can be a peaceful and very enjoyable place to train.
Both Cedar Creek and Gyro are especially nice early in the morning, before the boats are out and the shoreline gets busy. For many swimmers, that quiet window is one of the best parts of open water swimming. So come on out, and settle into the lake’s daily rhythm.
